I find the symbolism of New Year’s Resolutions very interesting. Perhaps each time we make a resolution to become a new person or change a key part in our life, an old part of us dies. This part of us becomes a ghost. Hallmark tells us that Halloween is the day when ghosts resurface again to walk the Earth but I think they’re wrong. It is those few moments before the New Year that our ghosts are the strongest. The shades of who we were tend to haunt who we’ve become and force us to remember all the things we’ve left behind in the year departing. My New Year’s Resolution is to finally put the dead to rest, and maybe let those ghosts be buried by the eulogy that plays during the countdown to midnight. Happy New Years everyone, to all my friends from every state and country, may your ghosts move on as well.
