#33: We are shaped by our thoughts; we become what we think. When the mind is pure, Love follows like a shadow that never leaves. - BuddhaTheir’s a really, old tibetan belief that’s as simple as this. “Perception is reality.” We all have powerful thoughts that shape the entire world around us without even realizing it. Our ideas and dreams are more powerful than we realize. It’s rare, but every so often, life gives us those simple moments of clarity. Moments when our thoughts are serene and we can see things for how they really are without the interference of doubt or unsurity. These moments are there to remind us that our thoughts are our most powerful tool. They are the pen and we are the authors of our own lives. When we allow other people to make us question ourselves and get inside our heads, we hand them this pen and lose control of our own story. Perception is reality, thoughts, dreams, and ideas are more powerful than you’d ever realize. The key is always having faith in them and reminding yourself every day of where you want them to take you.

#32: “Falling down is a part of life, getting back up, is living.”
I think often times when we feel defeated or when life overwhelms us by what we’ve done wrong, we forget that failure is sometimes a part of life. Without it, we could not grow. We need our faults in order to appreciate our successes and learn how to achieve them. The way I see things, if you’re constantly worried about what you’ve done wrong, you’re trapping yourself. When you get back up and use that experience to do something right, that’s when you’re really living.

#31: “Even heroes have the right to bleed.” -Five for FIghting
No matter what your circumstances, I promise you that you will endure a time in your life where you will take it upon yourself to be the hero. But before you do, take my advice; it’s not easy. To be strong for someone, to promise that you’ll be there no matter what, and to protect them from any pain is by no means an easy task. There was a time in my life where I was the hero for everybody and I learned that it’s so easy to get caught up in that. After a while it becomes a lifestyle, constantly being there for people can damage you in the process. Remember that no matter how strong you feel like you have to be, you have a right to feel, you have a right to let it all out, and being a hero doesn’t mean you’re invincible. You’re only human.

#30: “We carry these things inside of us that no one else can see. They hold us down like anchors. They drown us out at sea.” -Bring Me The Horizon

This is one of my favorite quotes for some reason; probably because it’s so true. Their are so many things that people will never see. So many parts of our past which sometimes can weigh so hard down on us that they seem to trap us in a time that’s already gone. Quotes like this can make one wonder what it really means to let go. So long as the past remains in our memory, can it ever be gone? I don’t think so. I think the only way to really let go is to realize that we are not prisoners of the past and whatever happened even just a moment before; is already gone.

#29: “To the well organized mind, death is but the next great adventure.” -Albus Dumbledore

All humans have a fear of death, because we doubt what may come after this life is finished. Is there an afterlife, or is this it for us? Perennial philosophy teaches us that the consensus of human thought and religion points to the reality of an afterlife. Why then, is death so feared? And will we ever reach a point where we are ready to face the inevitability of death? I believe that once we have learned all that we can from the adventure of this life, accepting an ending will bring us to our next one. Wherever that may be.

#28: “Escapism: (noun) the tendency to seek distractions to relieve unknown realities by escaping to a fantasy world.”Imagine the most perfect world you possible can. In this world you’ve created, everything is how you wanted. It’s so scary to know that we can find satisfaction in what we make up in our own heads. Call it imagination, lies, or a coping skill, the things you make up and choose to believe have some of the most powerful affect on you. It’s possible to bury yourself in the lies you create in your head. Lies about others, yourself, or even false memories you choose to believe. Be careful of the world your mind chooses to create, you don’t want to lose sight of what is reality and what is fiction.

#27: “When my body wants to go, tell me will my mind and soul go on and on forever?” -Imogen HeapHow interesting is it that our world has hundreds of religions that all tell the same story? A life beyond our own. This concept is one that has baffled philosophers, driven entire cultures, and began some of the greatest wars in history. The idea that our soul, mind, and body have the potential to go on beyond this world is a theory I suppose we can never prove until we get there. It terrifies many, the idea that when we go nothing happens. But it does. I suppose it’s called Faith because it’s what you rely on. It’s what drives you. It’s what keeps you here and keeps alive. I can’t tell you the answer to this question. No one in this life ever will. But I can tell you this: once you find something to believe in, trust it. Believe it with all your heart because your hope and faith is what keeps you going everyday. Why lose that to something we’ll never be able to prove? And if in another life we do meet again, have no doubt that I will be there to say, “I told you so.”

#26: It is impossible to change people. You can; however, show them that it is possible to change yourself.” -Personal QuotePeople can’t change. To be honest, that’s the biggest piece of bullshit I’ve ever heard in my life. Take your life for example, think about how you were last year and how different you are now. There’s so much to this world, and everyday something new shapes us. The people we meet, the places we go, what we experience, and the life lessons that learn. These are all examples of things that change us. But there is another power that exists: the power we have over ourselves. By changing how we think, and by altering our own perception of who we see in the mirror, we change ourselves. We create the exact person we want so desperately to be. This power exists. If you don’t believe it, and you don’t trust yourself. Trust me. I am a living, breathing example. I am a person and each day, I change: I become the one I want to be.

“It’s called Amas Veritas: a True Love spell. I never want to fall in Love, that’s the point. The guy I dreamed up doesn’t exist, and if he doesn’t exist, I’ll never die of a broken heart.” -Practical Magic
When I was younger, this was one of my favorite movies. If you haven’t seen Practical Magic, I strongly to advise you to, it’s one of the most beautiful movies ever. In the movie, one of the young witches father dies, and her mother dies soon after of a broken heart. On a full moon with her sister she casts this spell called Amas Veritas and wishes for a guy that could never be real so she’ll never fall in Love and die like her mother. I won’t ruin the movie for you, but I can tell you that this movie and this scene taught me what it was like to believe in the power of Love, and the magic of Happily Ever Afters.

#24: “Remember, it was only yesterday you were saying: Tomorrow.”
Time flies. It’s a cliche statement, but so true. Think back to a vivid memory you have. The sensation of that memory. It seems like it happened only moments ago, though it could have been years since it happened. How time plays tricks with our minds, I guess we’ll never know. But the only thing I suppose I do know about the future is that it’s always right before us, and by the time it gets here, it’s already like its gone. I don’t know what the future has in store for me, but I know that no matter what destiny holds, there’s always a tomorrow. There’s always something more. Appreciate time while you’re living it. Remember: every moment you store in your memory will not be here again. Cherish it while it lasts.

#23: “I wish I could discover something that doesn’t expire.” - Lights
This may be the saddest and hardest thing I’ve ever had to do. I cried for a long time. I never cry, but I’m so hurt. This is important for a lot of reasons. It’s unedited for one. Because you always saw me stripped down, you saw behind my smiles. You reached into me and made me feel what it felt to Love someone. I Loved you so much. It was just us two fighting against the world for so long. For a long time you were the only person I could trust with anything. I was so in Love with you on every single level. We didn’t even have to say it or label it, and that’s why it was so special. It was there whether other people saw it or not. It was us. But you changed, and I accept that. You are a different person, and my soul would give anything to go back to those summer nights we sat at the park and talked for hours about our lives. We would walk to the river and the whole world was covered by the dimming sun. We created a world that was all our own and no one else could touch it. And on the final day of summer we watched the last sunset from the porch of my new apartment. We said goodbye to our old lives and started new ones after that summer was over. You taught me what it was like to feel. You touched my soul. I’m crying now. Hard. You saw me cry once, a few times. But something I never thought I’d never do was cry over you. I’m so sorry. I Love you so much, and I don’t even know what to do with myself because I’ve lost you. I’m just so confused and so lost, I feel so alone without you. You took part of me with you when you left. And if nothing else, I pray it’s the only thing about you that doesn’t change. I hope everything I’ve taught you, everything I’ve given you, never changes. Because the piece of your heart that you’ve given me will always be here. It’s the reason I have hope for you. It’s the reason I have hope for us. I’ve truly Loved few people in my life and I’m so scared to try and let you go, because it’s not something either of us are good at. I’m lost. I’m confused. I want to cry and I’m rambling now because you’re still here inside me somewhere and that scares me because I’m afraid to go on living with the fear that you’ve given up. I’m sorry and I’ll always Love you on a level no one else but us will understand.

#22: “Things are only special, when they’re special.” -Marylee DelaneyThis quote means so much to me. I’ll tell you a little story. Theatre has always been a hobby of mine. There’s this powerful moment when you’re up on the stage and the lights hit you, and you feel like your shining. It’s by far one of the most intense and magical experiences I’ve ever encountered in my short seventeen years of life. During my most memorable and touching show to date (Les Miserables), my director spoke these words to me. A woman who I admire with all my heart, for her spectacular courage, vibrant personality, and dreams big enough to fill a stage herself, these words inspired me. Moments in life are only special when they’re special. And at some point they will leave you. This isn’t depressing, it’s inspiring. Live up those moments while they exist and never let them go to waste. Life is full of moments just as powerful as the next. If you don’t stop to enjoy them and allow yourself to be one with that exact moment, it will pass you by. Live every moment.

“It’s never too late to be who you might have been” - George EliotI haven’t done a quote in a while (I’ve been pretty busy lately), but when I saw this quote this evening, I just had to do it, because it’s always something I think about. How many people just give up because they believe it’s too late for them? This applies to so many different things. Let’s be honest, life is full of missed opportunities, whenever we make a choice we leave some thing behind. But you have to remember, this life is so big, and each day of life we’re given we have a chance to remind ourselves of those missed opportunities and remember that no matter what we leave behind, we always have another opportunity right in front of us. It’s never too late to change, it’s never too late to start over, and it’s never too late to be brand new. People do change. I am living proof of that, so if you don’t trust me, prove it to yourself. Change today.

#19: “Yea, all the darkness in the world could not extinguish the light of a single candle.” - St. Francis of Assisi
I think sometimes going about our day to day lives, in all the emotions we feel that we forget the true power of goodness. From personal experience I can tell you a little about depression. Sadness, being numb, lack of motivation to do anything. But we have to remember that we, ourselves, are the key to making it through these dark stages in our lives, and no amount of darkness, despite the unbeatable odds, has the power to take from us our inner light, what guides us and helps us make it through every day. There is hope, and there is Love, you just need to remember to light the candle.
